Drug War 40

The global war as seen from the center of North America

Tribal warfare

A comment from a friend on this AP story: AP Exclusive: Sinaloa cartel wins Juarez turf war

If Calderon and the Mexican army were backing Chapo, then the Merida Initiative would be lending support also.

What will happen next (is happening now) is power consolidation. Maybe the APB for Tablas is part of that. There is a large cultural bias against those cholo Aztecas. They won’t be invited to the party. Part of what has been happening in Juarez is a genocidal purge of cholo lowlifes. They don’t care what you’re doing. It’s all about which tribe you belong to. You don’t have to be a drug dealer as long as you wear khakis and wife-beaters and bandanas, and sport tattoos. Even drug use is secondary. It’s all about tribal affiliation.

We do the same thing in the U.S. That’s a large part of the War on Drugs. If you want to legalize drugs, you’ll have to find some other excuse for class/race/socioeconomic/tribal warfare. Nobody cares if a bunch of white kids in tennis togs are smoking pot in Connecticut, except that it might lead to them hanging out with people of color.
